Mind Map and Reality.
Have you ever considered that our experience of the world and life itself is akin to a personalized map? Just as we selectively filter and enhance photos before posting them on social media, we tend to highlight what’s important to us and ignore aspects of reality that don’t pique our interest. This subjective filtering can lead to unexpected surprises when the ignored facets of reality suddenly confront us. We’re left feeling perplexed, annoyed, or even angry, but it’s crucial to recognize that the fault doesn’t lie with reality itself. In fact, we often wish that reality aligned more closely with our personal maps.
Life is like a grand play, but our individual maps are but a fragment of its full richness. The number of mistakes on our mental maps depends on our ability to perceive life holistically, from various perspectives, and in sync with the present moment.
Our greatest obstacles to perceiving reality as it truly is stem from the early decisions and beliefs we formed during our upbringing and interactions with influential figures. These people not only shaped our image of reality but also dictated what’s permissible and what’s not, what’s virtuous and what’s not, and when something or someone deserves respect or not. Consequently, they defined the meaning and purpose of our lives.
We absorbed these beliefs, often without critically examining their validity, essentially adopting their “catastrophes, horrors, and taboos” as our own. We saw the world through their eyes, adopting their interpretations of reality as our own. However, when our internal map aligns with the external reality we inhabit, we gain the power to make wiser choices.
In conclusion, our individual mind maps can either limit or liberate us in our understanding of reality and life’s grand tapestry. To live more authentically, we must strive to expand our mental horizons, question inherited beliefs, and seek to harmonize our inner maps with the ever-unfolding reality we encounter. In doing so, we can navigate life’s landscape with greater wisdom and purpose.
When our inner map of reality matches the reality we live in, we are able to choose wisely!
